Design, New Construction and Facility Expansion with CCA

Many federal, state and local correctional systems faced with a growing inmate population, limited space, aging buildings and outdated technologies need new construction. But the site acquisition, architectural design and construction or expansion process might seem prohibitive for many reasons, such as:

  • The footprint of an existing jail or prison presents no feasible options for facility expansion.
  • The corrections system has no recent, or limited, experience with the design and construction process.
  • Public needs such as schools, hospitalsand roads are more important priorities to taxpayers.
  • The current – and projected – budget does not allot for such a multi-million dollar expenditure.
  • The overburdened corrections system cannot dedicate staff time or resources to yet another project.

With CCA, corrections systems can construct entirely new facilities or expand existing ones without incurring additional debt or undergoing protracted appropriations processes. That's because CCA finances the entire project.

CCA can design and expand or construct a correctional facility in 12-18 months, compared to the typical 48-60 months required in the public sector. CCA also provides cost savings of approximately 25 percent on new construction. Since CCA is an alternative-funding source, governments can pursue innovative correctional solutions without accounting for the multi-million dollar cost of new construction – saving needed funds for critical programs like education, healthcare and transportation.

When designing a new facility, CCA considers the current and projected inmate population, security level, program needs and contractual mandates.

With CCA, correctional systems of all sizes achieve state-of-the-art solutions with the latest technologies, modern designs and custom amenities.
