Raymond T. Byrd Named Warden at Wilkinson County Correctional Facility
Byrd brings his passion for corrections back to the Magnolia State
WOODVILLE, MS. – CCA, America's leader in partnership corrections, is pleased to name Raymond T. Byrd as warden of the 1,000 bed Wilkinson County Correctional Facility in Woodville, Mississippi. With nearly three decades of corrections experience, Byrd is back in the Magnolia State with a focus on keeping communities safe and helping those around him achieve their goals.
"My approach and passion has and will always be to never forget where I came from, and the challenges I have had to overcome," said Byrd. "It's just as important to help others realize their full potential, and be a mentor as others have done for me."
As someone who followed his own passions, Byrd has led a career path of notable milestones. He got his start as a correctional officer with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. With public service experience under his belt, he moved to the private sector and CCA, climbing the ranks to assistant warden and warden.
Byrd is no stranger to the Magnolia State, and has fond memories during his time here as warden of the Delta Correctional Facility in Greenwood.
"When I served as the warden at Delta Correctional Facility, I would speak with the former warden here at Wilkinson County and she would just brag on the staff," said Byrd. "So when I was notified I'd be coming here I got excited and I must tell you, the team is definitely living up to my high expectations."
While much of his career in corrections has been in the south, Warden Byrd says one of his most memorable assignments was at the CCA Correctional Treatment Facility in Washington D.C.
"Working with all the good people up there was priceless," said Byrd. "Living in the nation's capital was awesome."
Byrd lives in Natchez, is the proud father of four grown daughters, ages 20 to 28 and considers himself the world's biggest NFL Dallas Cowboys fan.
