CCA Lake Erie Correctional Institution Accreditation Confirmed
CONNEAUT, Ohio – CCA's Lake Erie Correctional Institution (LaECI) has been accredited by independent auditors from the American Correctional Association (ACA). An impressive score of 99.06 percent was recently confirmed at ACA's winter conference on January 27, 2013 in Houston, Texas.
“Our team at Lake Erie has worked very hard, and this accreditation is a reflection of that effort," said Daren Swenson, CCA Vice President of Operations. “We're extremely proud to provide safe, secure housing and quality rehabilitation programming for inmates, all at savings for Ohio’s taxpayers."
Accreditation by the ACA occurs every three years and is the industry gold standard. Currently, more than 93 percent of CCA’s operating facilities are ACA-accredited, among the highest rates of similarly sized corrections systems.
"This exemplary score from the ACA, coupled with the re-inspection report we received from the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction late last year, demonstrates our commitment to ensuring that this facility meets and exceeds the standards that we not only expect of ourselves but, more importantly, our government partners expect of us," said LaECI warden Barry Goodrich.
ACA auditors review hundreds of standards, and rigorously access everything from incidents to inmate rehabilitation programs. For example, inmates at LaECI have access to courses through the Kent State University Ashtabula Campus and can complete their GED, certificate of high school equivalency, through the Ohio Department of Education. Overall, CCA helps inmates earn more than 3,000 GED certificates each year.
